Satellite internet that fits in a backpack and runs off a power bank.
The Starlink Mini is Starlink's compact dish with the Wi-Fi router built in. It is small enough to carry, typically draws about 25–40W, and runs on 12–48V DC or 100W USB-C PD, so you can power it from a van battery, a power station or a large power bank. For vanlife, overlanding, boats and remote work it is the simplest way to get fast internet where there is no mobile signal.
Who it's for
- Vanlifers and remote workers who need video calls from campsites and backroads
- Boat owners and liveaboards (check Starlink's maritime plan rules for your area)
- Campers, field crews and anyone who wants backup internet for power cuts
Pros
- Built-in Wi-Fi router, so there is no separate box to power or mount
- Low power draw for a satellite dish; runs well off 12V systems
- Compact and light enough to pack in a carry-on
- Quick setup: point it at the sky and use the Starlink app
Cons
- Needs a clear view of the sky; trees and buildings cause dropouts
- You also need a Starlink service plan; hardware alone does not include data
- Built-in Wi-Fi range is modest for large RVs or boats
What else you'll need
- A mount for your roof rack, ladder or rail
- A hard case for travel days
- A 12V DC cable or a power station for all-day use
